Welcome To Heavy Brothers Trucking

HEAVY BROTHERS BEGINNING

John Hayes, the founder of the HEAVY BROTHERS, is the Grandson of N Y Robertson of Robertson & Moss, assemblers and distributors of Thorneycroft, REO and Scammell trucks in Sub Saharan Africa From 1926 to 1959.
After the Apartheid Regime forcibly removed their community in 1968 under the infamous Group Areas Act John became an activist and joined various transport unions such as the Turning Wheels and the Transport Workers Union. In 1979 based at the Ladysmith Truck Stop he and Joseph Nzima founded the Heavy Brothers Professional Truckers Association which quickly gained 300 members. On returning from an attempt to register the Heavy Brothers he was arrested and tortured by the security police who subsequently disbanded the Association.
